The Original Chair Company

Based in Perthshire, Scotland, The Original Chair Company was started in 2006 by Kate MacKenzie who has always been inspired by her passion for chair design and interior design. This, together with her love of antiques and enjoyment of traditional upholstery, turned a serious hobby into a career. 

We aim to appeal to discerning and creative people with traditional style and longevity in mind, offering a wide range of services. We provide custom made upholstered furniture, window dressings and a vast selection of quality fabrics as well as an interior design service.

With our highly skilled craftsmanship and expert guidance, knowledge and efficiency from our team we hope to take you through the whole experience with ease and pleasure. Meet the Team

Kate is the founder of The Original Chair Company and remains a key member of the team and will often be the first point of contact when designing your living space. Kate has in depth knowledge on the furniture build process and with her experience of the extensive fabric range that is on offer, together with trends within the industry, her guidance is invaluable in helping clients produce the perfect solution for their homes. Kate also fosters positive working relationships with other trade contacts within the industry.

Sarah is an integral part of the team at The Original Chair Company. Sarah joined the sales team in 2015 and is always ready to help with any questions you might have or assist in the smooth processing your order. With an in-depth knowledge of our wide range of products, including all the latest fabric collections, Sarah is an expert at providing advice and guidance on choosing the right furniture for you. Sarah also looks after the processing of our larger commercial projects.

Moira joined The Original Chair Company team in 2019 as sales administrator having spent the past few years prior to this managing the local Fired Earth store. Moira is extremely knowledgeable of the product ranges available and also assists with product content for the website so is sure to be able to answer any questions you might have. Moira looks after our re-upholstery service too, ensuring your well loved pieces of furniture are restored again to a very high standard.
